CLG are the second team to secure a spot at SL i-League StarSeries Season 3 Finals via the North American qualifiers after defeating Renegades 2-0 (16-8 on Train and 16-9 on Overpass).
With Immortals already through to the StarLadder event in Kiev after edging past Liquid in a three-map series, the battle for the final North American qualifying spot was contested between CLG and Renegades - two teams desperate for success.
The first map of the series, Train, was a complete blowout, with CLG cruising to a 13-2 lead on the Terrorist side. A trio of kills by Justin "jks" Savage in the pistol round gave Renegades a lifeline, but despite winning six of the first seven rounds of the second half, the Australians were unable to pull off a miraculous comeback, eventually losing the map 8-16.
Rickeh powered CLG to beat his former team
The second map followed the same pattern as the first as CLG took a whopping 11 rounds on the Terrorist side. After losing the pistol round, Renegades hit back on a force buy, and that was the start of a great run from the Australian side, who cut the gap to just three rounds. However, an ace from Ricardo "Rickeh" Mulholland in a force-buy attempt brought Renegades' streak to an end and powered CLG to lock down the map, 16-9.
